Rising Tide Expeditions is based in the beautiful fishing village of Gabarus, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada and offer sea kayaking adventures and education in many unique locations on Cape Breton Island.

Sea kayaking is a great way to experience the outdoors, with ocean air in your lungs and the sun on your face. Seabirds, marine life and shoreline habitat are accessible in a whole new way.

Our guests are young and young-at-heart. We have introduced people aged 2 to 87 years of age to kayaking.  We love our Island and kayaking, and take pride in your comfort and enjoyment of your vacation with us.

No experience necessary on most of our offerings, only an interest in the outdoors. Instruction is provided during your time with us.

All meals during our trips are prepared on the beach by your guides. You will be impressed by our creations from out of a kayak. Dietary needs can be accommodated. A hearty lunch for kayaking energy!

What to bring

We provide the kayak, paddling equipment and guide for your trip. For half- and day-long outings we suggest that you wear clothing and footwear in which you would be comfortable should they get wet, sun and rain protection and a change of clothes for the end of the day. For classes and overnight trips, we will provide a list of suggested clothing and equipment on registration.

About safety

Rising Tide Expeditions is owned, operated by trained and experienced sea kayak guide/ instructors. Every effort is made to minimize risks, real and perceived, through training, practice, proper equipment and careful decision-making We take great care and pride in the comfort and positive experiences of our guests on Cape Breton Island.

Note - Travel on the ocean is, by its nature, an activity through which you may be exposed to unforeseen conditions and events. Participants do so at their own risk and will be required to sign a waiver. Itineraries are subject to change.

Our guides are trained and experienced in sea kayaking and outdoor travel, as well as fluent in the human and natural histories of our paddling areas. We would love to introduce you to the land, the sea and the stories of Cape Breton Island.
